Just Under The Wire Friday Cat Blogging

How Bug stays cool during a heatwave...there's a fan about three feet to the right of her. This is the fifth straight day of 96+ degree (mostly 101 the past four days) heat. The fog has rolled over the Oakland Hills but the ground is still radiating a lot of heat.

Interesting historical note: We were at the opening day of the Alameda County Fair this afternoon. While looking at the tech hall, the SigOt sat down with some the nice ladies with the genealogical society to do a little computer digging in her family tree. I was watching some kids fly radio controlled Mylar blimps around near us. I started chuckling at how my cats would react if I brought one of these toys home. One of the ladies from the genealogical society noticed me watching the blimps and we got to talking. Turns out her father survived two of the major dirigible catastrophes of the 1930s. I'm sitting here with a book from my childhood, When Monsters Roamed The Sky, looking at a photo of this woman's father, who was the executive officer of the Akron. He was one of three to survive when it crashed into the Atlantic; seventy three other crewmen were not so fortunate. He was the captain of the Macon when it crashed into the Pacific many years later.

My cool brush with history...
